LA VITA IN COMUNE di Edoardo Winspeare sarà in Concorso nella sezione Orizzonti alla 74. Mostra d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia.

Una storia poetica e fiabesca che si svolge nel Comune immaginario di Disperata, un piccolo paese del sud Italia dimenticato da Dio, dove il malinconico sindaco Filippo Pisanelli (Gustavo Caputo) si sente terribilmente inadeguato al proprio compito. Solo l’amore per la poesia e la passione per le sue lezioni di letteratura ai detenuti gli fanno intravedere un po’ di luce nella depressione generale. In carcere conosce Pati (Claudio Giangreco), un criminale di basso calibro del suo stesso paese, che con il fratello Angiolino (Antonio Carluccio) sognava di diventare boss del Capo di Leuca. Ma l’incontro con l’arte cambia tutti, e così un’inconsueta amicizia tra i tre porterà ciascuno a compiere delle scelte coraggiose: i due ormai ex banditi subiranno una vera e propria conversione alla poesia e alla bellezza del Creato, mentre il sindaco troverà il coraggio per difendere delle idee, forse folli, ma per cui vale la pena battersi come ad esempio dichiarare il proprio amore alla bella Eufemia (Celeste Casciaro). La ricomparsa della foca monaca nei mari italiani sarà il segno che qualcosa è cambiato. La vita del timido Filippo è ormai capovolta e lui ci si butta dentro con un tuffo, finalmente circondato non da paure ma da un silenzio pacifico.

Questa inconsueta relazione non cambierà solo i tre amici bensì sarà anche foriera di una rinascita civile per la piccola comunità di Disperata.

Nelle parole del regista Edoardo Winspeare: «La vita in comune siamo noi, uomini generosi e miseri, quando decidiamo di stare insieme, magari provando a sognare. Pati, Angiolino, Eufemia, Biagetto e Filippo esistono veramente: sono proprio così, o – forse meglio – potrebbero essere così come descritti nella sceneggiatura. Le loro ambizioni, i loro sogni – come diventare i mammasantissima del più povero e depresso paesino di Puglia, aspettare la foca monaca, iniziare alla poesia alcuni detenuti, desiderare di fare il bidello, attendere con ansia una telefonata del Papa, costruire lo zoo di Disperata – hanno il sapore di una visionarietà quotidiana senza la retorica che spesso accompagna tali gesta quando compiute da eroi riconosciuti dal mondo intero.»
